Here we are in our younger days biking in the Tetons with Audrey and Joyce. After too long a hiatus, we’re back to biking. It feels great! As I recall, after Randy, Audrey and I rode through the Jenny Lake loop road, we had a big water fight. I’ll bet Randy won.

Here’s Dad blowing out his 80th birthday candles. Moments after this photo was taken, the candles all fused together into one huge flame. Dad and Mom drove to Coeur d’ Alene to celebrate his 80th, and Dad and I rode our bikes to the lake to celebrate. Along the route, he cussed me for pedaling too slowly for him. “I can’t balance that well,” he said. I hope he has the best birthday, ever, tomorrow, when he turns 91.

Happy Birthday to my brother Allan. He’s afraid of sharks. I’ve never taken a photo of a shark before (well, maybe in an aquarium tank), so here’s a lighthouse near recent sightings of sharks for you, Allan. Hope you have a shark-free day.

August 3rd on the Heritage Trail near Monroe, New York. A Hasidic village is nearby, and often in the morning, we share the trail.

The deer are not shy around here. This guy barely looked up as I walked by on my morning walk. They’re plentiful this year, too–as are the turkeys. Large families. Deer ticks aside, I love to watch these critters.

Today was a beautiful day for a bike ride on the Harlem Valley Rail Trail. It’s in the area of the three corners of New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts–about an hour’s drive from here. Fun! We’re planning a September bike adventure in Maine, so we thought we’d try to get a little more weekend riding in. Today’s 22 mile ride was a keeper.

What’s a visit with little ones without a trip to the Zoo? Here’s a resident flamingo in the L.A. Zoo.

A hot day required a spin in a boat. Gavin paddling around the pool in Woodland Hills.

Recently, we visited Patrick and Libby for a few days. Libby’s mother, Ginny, just moved into a new (to her) barn home on Bainbridge Island, and we all spent July 4th at the new homestead. Sparkler photos to come. The next day we went to Snoqualmie Falls and the Ballard Locks, and had a great time visiting the Seattle kinfolk. A perfect visit! Unfortunately, Libby had to work on the 6th, but Patrick, Randy and I took the ferry out of Anacortes and visited Orcas Island. What a beautiful, inspiring Northwest visit. Thanks, Patrick, and Libby!
