The tent, the children.

the tent.jpg  Noah and Claire have slept in this tent together for the past nine nights.  It’s pitched in the downstairs bedroom at the foot of the bed, staked with–what else–duct tape.

Angular Momentum

Filed under: Uncategorized — annie @ 4:05 pm

angular momentum.jpg   My poor grandkids. The morning’s fun at the playground included a lesson from Old Grandma on angular momentum.  Claire and Noah haven’t stopped giggling since they got here July 17th.  Ginny called today and tried to talk to Claire, only to have their conversation obliterated by giggles.  I’m amazed how well they’ve done without their folks for ten days.  Ginny and Craig return tomorrow night.  Don’t tell her that Claire called me Mama once.  Everybody say ahhh….

Just another day at work.

EBR1 Audrey, Ginny jpg.jpg  Here it is, Nicholas.  Audrey and Ginny at the controls of a nuclear reactor.  Now THAT was a scary day…  Maybe if they didn’t let kids control the fuel rods, they’d have fewer meltdowns.  This was taken at the EBR 1 nuclear reactor at the former Atomic Energy Commission site in the Idaho desert, for all who doubt my story.

Harlem Valley Rail Trail ride July 9.

Three phone photos from our ride this morning.  When the train ran on this line, it had to go through narrow cut in the stone.  One day two trains met head-on and there was a terrible train wreck.  Now moss grows on the stone.  We love this trail because it’s mostly under a great canopy of hardwoods.  Because it is more remote than the Heritage Trail in Orange County, it isn’t as busy with walkers, runners, and cyclists.  Today a deer wandered out onto the trail and walked toward us a short way before deciding he should move into the woods again.  Sad note:  I accidentally ran over a chipmunk who ran under my rear wheel.  At least it was quick.

On our ride we stopped at the boneyard.

2011-07-02_09-52-53_28.jpg   (Click on the photo to enlarge, Mama.)  Here is the boneyard on the Heritage Trail in Orange County, New York.  And me.  We had a nice ride this morning.  No road to this boneyard–the folks who reside here have been here since the 1700’s and 1800’s.
